Our Practice Areas
If you’re needing legal assistance in any of these fields, you’re in the right place at Blake Attorneys
Insurance Claims
- Insurance law can be complex and it can be intimidating to deal with an insurer who doesn’t want to pay you. We have a good track record against insurance companies and will advise you early whether you have a case and whether the costs make it worth pursuing.
- We litigate carefully and we try to keep our costs to a minimum, limiting the use of counsel where possible to ensure that you get a cost-effective solution.
- Be advised that most insurance policies provide that you must refer your case to the Ombudsman or take legal action within 90 days of getting a letter from your insurer which repudiates or refuses to pay. It is accordingly important that you come and see us as soon as possible after the insurer refuses to make payment.
Maintainance & Unmarried Parents
- Parenting Plans are advertised as the solution to all the problems of parenting with your ex.
- At Blake Attorneys, our senior partner lived the terms of the parenting plans we draft. No, its not as easy as drawing up an agreement, but there is still enormous value in agreeing the rules of parenting.
- As a single mother, we know, the path is covered in rocks but there are ways of dodging them.
- There are technical aspects to the law concerning unmarried parents but generally this is an area where personal experience and 20 years in the field make a difference. The Children’s Act has been interpreted differently over the last 10 years and that development is reflecting our change as a society. We have so many new and more effective solutions in law.
Divorce
- Whether you are primarily concerned about the children or your main problem is trying to create a viable financial future, we can help.
- We are aware of all the complexities of Pension laws and all the changes to that aspect of divorce law.
- Divorce is NOT the most fun time of your life but with us in your corner this can be a transformative experience. You need a fighter in your corner- but you do not need to burn down the house. We trust our clients and we empower them to make decisions that work for them and their families.
Domestic Violence
- For many people talking about the subject of Domestic Violence is difficult and stressful. For us, its a normal day at the office! While we empathise with you, our job is to explain your rights to you and guide you to a strategy which works for you.
- We bring our Applications for Domestic Violence Interdicts without using an Advocate, which is more affordable in most cases.
- We are difficult to intimidate.
- We know the complexities of the law in this area, so we are well placed to advise you on how the law can help you to create a new life for yourself and stand on your own two feet. Even when there are other little feet standing on yours.
Estates
- We can help you with your Estate administration. We have a personal touch to manage the tricky processes of winding up your loved one’s Estate. Family drama, bolshy creditors, flustered relatives are all stressful – we have a friendly support team. Dealing with the Master’s Office is not for amateurs – let us do it for you.
Business Law
- Running a business is tough. But it is a lot easier when you have a tough Attorney in your corner.
- We are “in the corner” of clients in the engineering, IT and manufacturing industries and we have decades of experience.
- We also have clients in numerous fields involving distributions and agencies. We enjoy all our niche, unusual clients and can create weird and wonderful service offerings, which are legally described and make sense in law, especially in IT.
- We get to know our clients and we invest our expertise in your business. There is strategic value in understanding the legal frameworks which your business operates within. Your attorney should be a trusted strategic partner.
- After 20 years we have seen clients transform. We have been part of many exciting journeys and we look forward to being part of yours.
Contracts Drafting
Even though verbal agreements are enforceable agreements, and so also contracts, proving what was said should things go awry is tedious and expensive. It is far safer to preserve what was agreed upon by drafting a contract.
By writing down the details of a deal – terms, prices, delivery, timeframe – as well as the legal consequences for not fulfilling the commitment, you are starting to create a contract and give your business certainty.
